Mara's eyes are closed, but not to flash photographers!

This image is safe to look at with the naked eye. The effigy of Mara depicted behind the rope bridge is seen with it's eyes benevolently closed.
However, upon careful study of its photographs, the eyes appear malevolently open.

The ceiling of the rotunda calendar will illuminate, at dawn, that which you are to bring as tribute to Mara: Cloth, Jewels, Fruit, Fowl, et cetera by the sun's rays entering the portholes in the ceiling illuminating the pictograph representations of those tributes which circle the wall of the dome's interior. On the winter solstice, December 22 of last year the fruit pictograph was brilliantly lit to show that it has been covered later by what appears to be blankets or cloth. This may indicate a change in climate. If the shaft of light is pointing to the eye, you need only bring yourself.

Several people have been told this about the ladder near the wooden doors in the west corner of the room:
"If you climb into the crevice above, the secret of the ancient and elusive Hindu Rope Trick will be revealed. This is where a shaman plays an enchanting melody on a flute (or whistle) and a rope climbs up into the air with no apparent means of support, like--my brother in law,-- and a young boy climbs the rope. He VANISHES! Then his body parts fall to the earth along with the rope. And that's the only way you can bring the secret back with you… I still don't know how it's done!" [strange tale, this. I don't recommend climbing any ladders in the temple.]

The corner of the stone with the image of a man cutting stalks of grain with a scythe is labeled with "Plant the Seed" in Marabic. Likewise, the corner labeled "Reap the Harvest" has a painting of a man sowing seed. It is my personal belief that the words and the pictures on the calendar sarcophagus stone are reversed for a reason and also that some of the letters are misshapen or inverted. Next year, 1937, I plan to bring a team of cryptologists or code crackers here to meet Indy and resolve this debate once and for all (my wives seem to think that its sole purpose was meant to cause scholars grief and animosity.) As with the stones on the altar, the leather documents (which I have authenticated as having been written by the deity itself,) do not match the tablet inscriptions. Right now Dr. Dunfor Pullit is down below the Calendar Sarcophagus Stone cataloging the immense wealth and rich variety of ancient artifacts. Yesterday, 1936.04.01 we improved his shaky stance in the shaft by supporting him with a rope.

UPDATE - the team examination was inconclusive. The petroglyphs had been rubbed away by the many new visitors to the temple. Most of the "Woe to the unworthy who pass beneath" had been rubbed away entirely and a poor attempt had been made with a contemporary pen to restore the lettering, completely obliterating the original words, and the word "Beneath" had replaced the second "e" with the shape of a Mickey Mouse head. BLASPHEMY! Now we'll never find the keyhole!

"Hidden Mickey" on the Sarcophagus Stone.

It may be a hidden mickey only because is a mickey shape concealed within other art, but it is not an intentional Hidden Mickey placed here by Imagineers. Someone found a Mickey here because someone put a Mickey here. But it was not in the original plans or here on opening day. This was not even here eleven years after the adventure's opening.
This is in an interactive portion of the exhibit, under hand of thousands of guests each day. The ink is wrong, it's not dye based paint like the rest, This is wishful thinking, wished so hard (with help from the hand of man), it was wished right into existence, with a Bic ballpoint pen!

Perhaps it was created out of frustration, for folks had been told that there is a Hidden Mickey near here. It stared them in the face, it was too big to notice, and they walked right under it with their eyes on the spike room.
