Disney Dream Suite

Unfinished space above the entrance of Pirates of the Caribbean that was originally set aside for Walt Disney's private suite was previously converted into another kind of attraction - The Disney Gallery. Now that art gallery has been converted back to it's original purpose, a grand palace in which to opulently entertain guests overnight.
As Part of the 2009 Disney Dreams giveaway guests will be randomly selected to stay overnight in the former Disney Gallery and then participate as Grand Marshal in the next day's Parade of Dreams.

"Disneyland Dream Suite Designer Kim Irvine"
interview on KABC 7
Lisa Hernandez reporting
1/29/2007 05:42 a.m.

[Phillip Palmer and Kathy Vara in the newsroom hand it off…]
"Eyewitness News Reporter Lisa Hernandez is live at Disneyland with a tour of the Dream Suite and she is going to explain just who gets to stay there."
"It's unbelievable we have all the top secrets on how to get this room, it's in the park. This is Kim Irvine, our buddy, with Walt Disney Imagneering, thank you for being with us. She helped design what we're looking at right?"
"That's right"
"Now tell us the whole story, take an interesting walk around the room and show us exactly what this is. I guess, randomly, people who come to the park can actually stay here overnight."
"That's exactly right, as part of our 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway, you can, almost every night, win a chance to stay IN Disneyland."
"Amazing, it's everybody's dream, because we all love the park. Twenty-six hundred square feet is it?"
"About Twenty-two hundred."
"Twenty-two hundred, It's huge anyway. Right?"
"Yes it is."
"And we're looking in the bathroom, What are we looking at here?"
"The suite was actually designed for Walt Disney while he was still alive. He wanted, while we were building New Orleans Square, he wanted to have a place in New Orleans where he could entertain people. The suite was designed for him but never completed, of course, because he passed away before it could be. So we have taken those renderings that he had done, and actually completed it FOR him. So it's Walt's Dream come true as well."
"Very nice."
"This room is the Master Bedroom, and it was designed, each room has a little bit of a theme of one of the lands at Disneyland, and this one is right of off Adventureland. If you look through those windows and you will actually SEE the Jungle Cruise."
"Oh my goodness"
"You can actually HEAR the tiki bird and animals from the Jungle Cruise. So we designed this in kind of a Victorian Exotic style with the leafy carpets and the kind of mosquito netting canopy on the bed. and…"
"It's gorgeous Kim. You did a great job."
"Oh, thank you."
"We're walking, and Edgar's walking backwards, good job buddy, as we head into the parlor, is it?"
"This is the parlor, yes it is. The sitting parlor."
"Now folks watch at home, you can actually win a chance to stay overnight here at Disneyland, inside this amazing apartment inside the park, they pick you randomly, you have a chance to bring in five guests, stay over night. Edgar pan away. It's beautiful, I mean there's a chandelier, you've got the fake fireplace over there, very nice."
"Actually this room was designed in more of a New Orleans style, kind of French Provincial because you enter into it right off of New Orleans, and most of the decorating is done as inspirations that Walt might have had to build different things at Disneyland, for instance these hand painted murals on the walls of two castles in Europe that the Disney designers originally kludged together to make our Sleeping Beauty castle. You can see elements in them of that. And there's also magical things that happen in this suite. Besides it's being beautiful and elegant and having all kind of wonderful things to look at. There are magical moments that occur in this particular room. Several time a day, magical things happen between this grandfather clock on the wall and other things in the room."
"O.K. Kim Irvine of Walt Disney Imagineering. Thank you for being with us."
"Alright, you're welcome."
"And so awesome job with this suite. Here's the deal folks, this starts January Thirty-first. Randomly picked people who come to the park, one person each night, most days of the year for 2008. You can spend the night. And then you're the Grand Marshal for the Disneyland parade the next day! And it's like Christmas every day. Here at Disneyland. By the way Disney is the parent company of ABC 7. We're live from Disneyland. Lucky girl this morning, I'm Lisa Hernandez ABC Eyewitness news. Back to you in the studio."
"That just keeps getting better, Magical things happen in the room"
"I KNOW!"
"Grand Marshal…"
"Yeah…"
"Alright. Thank you Lisa."

"Dream Suite Manager Steve Arneson and Brian Scholz"
interview on KABC 7
Lisa Hernandez reporting
1/29/2007 06:42 a.m. Disneyland

"…Suite. And she's also going to tell us who gets to stay there."
"Yes. And good lead in Kathy Culp. Steve Arneson is one of the suite managers out here. Tell us how people win. Edgar you can go around the room as you like."
"Well one lucky guest, during their stay here at the Disneyland Resort, will have the opportunity to be gifted with one night stay here in the Disneyland Dreams Suite and they just have to be in the right place at the right time during their experience here at the Disneyland Resort."
"So we could be on [Big] Thunder Mountain [Railway], third row back on the left and that 'ding ding ding' that's the winner of the day?"
"Absolutely, absolutely. Just be in the right place at the right time anywhere across the resort."
"Very nice. And we're looking at the decor here and this little locomotive is actually going to move shortly here. But it's quite an interesting stay, this is a beautifully decorated room here and any one in the park on a daily basis can win starting January 31st."
"Absolutely and one guest can have the opportunity to come in this room and they will have a goodnight kiss moment, this is part of it, and they will be able to have an opportunity to just experience things that really inspired Walt to build Disneyland"
"Awesome, Steve thank you so much for your time. Steve Arneson, one of the Suite Managers. And now we're going to move to the balcony, I guess the veranda? We're going to talk to another gentleman out here. Brian Scholz right?" "Yes."
"And you are with Walt Disney Imagineering?"
"Yes."
"And tell us about the decor, and what's up, it 's a beautiful suite."
"It is a beautiful suite, it's very large and plush with a lot of interior finishes and decor and props and a lot of items that were very inspirational or could have been to Walt Disney when he created Disneyland."
"It was originally planned for him but he passed away before it was finished."
"That's correct."
"So now it goes to the guests that visit."
"It sure does, and one of the amazing things it that guests get their own private balcony out here and get this wonderful vista out onto New Orleans Square and the Rivers of America and enjoy some of the entertainment that we have to offer here."
"Ten seconds left here. And the next day they get to be grand marshal of the parade."
"That's right, they get to hosted on a very special VIP treatment down Main Street USA as our grand marshals in our parade."
"Thank you so much, Brian Scholz. So that's what happens, random people chosen every day throughout 2008 they get five guests, they stay here, they're grand marshal, the big parade. What a view! And you don't pay anything, how 'bout that? That's the best part of it. We're live at Disneyland. Phillip, Kathy back to you."
"Alright Lisa Hernandez, thank you very much."
