That's right! Your deductible donation to the performing arts goes straight into the hat, and one hundred percent of administration fees are not enough to keep the magic alive. If you have ever giggled silly from too much fun or taken an idea to heart then now is the season to put something back. If you have enjoyed the show or merely walked by, even if you didn't have a penny in your pocket at the time, please pledge your support of starving artists now. The magic can only be kept alive by donations from viewers like you.

Accelerometer Data

Riding Splash Mountain

On the trip featured in 3D above, I took along an accelerometer and a GPS recorder. The GPS was confused by being inside the building, but The accelerometer caught every nuance of bump and drop.
Splash Mountain, Part One
Splash Mountain, Part Two
Unfortunately, when I calibrated the equipment, two hours before the ride, I incorrectly entered the current time, so it reset to 0, and the timeline on the bottom represents time elapsed since calibration, not the time of day, which would have made it easier to determine the synchronization with the camera time. Consequently I'm not quite sure which graph is of Splash Mountain. I think they both are, I seem to recall riding twice.
Red is stop/start, blue is left/right and green is gravity down where the baseline is 1G negative, so -2G represents one additional G pull to the ground and fractional G represents "air time" and there shouldn't be any zero (0) or positive G forces which represent the seat restraint returning us to earth faster than gravity. This is Disney folks, not Six Flags.

O.K. I think I nailed it down, everything seems to fit correctly to the data captured, so I captioned it. This graph is starting with the gentle left turn into the bottom of the lift. A minute and a half later we are pitching over the top of the lift and plummeting at -0.3G fractional gravity, which is not "Negative Gs" so much as it is an effective pull from the earth at 1/3 nominal weight. But this IS where most people experience the maximum "Butterflies in the Stomach" anatomical fear response to a rapid descent, a fear of falling. Then, of course, we return to earth gently at -1.75G down, or 3/4 more gravity than usual. The red line also indicates we decelerate rapidly at first, then gradually the "water brakes" gently "release" as we enter a right turn indicated by the blue graph line.

Then we are off again on our merry journey past Catfish Bend and into the final show room as seen from the Disneyland Railroad, singing "Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah" aboard the Zip A Dee Lady. There's a spike to -0.4G in the red graph line when we are paused to examine our ride photo.

Clearly the most turbulent portion of the journey was the disembark and a return to our own two feet.

It is difficult to pinpoint the beginning of the ride. It was a few minutes before closing and Splash Mountain was a walk-on, with folks getting "stay in your seats if you want to re-ride." This hasn't been scientifically examined for accuracy and the captions and descriptions may be off, but the collected data is calibrated and accurately displayed in the graphs. <8=o)— Wiz.
